Joseph L. Subbiondo
Joseph L. Subbiondo, President of the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) since June 1999, has served as Dean of the School of Liberal Arts at St. Mary’s College of California; Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of the Pacific; and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Santa Clara University. Prior to his administrative appointments, Mr. Subbiondo was a faculty member in the English Departments at Santa Clara University and Villanova University. His numerous scholarly publications are in the area of the history of linguistics, especially regarding the works of John Wilkins and his colleagues in the seventeenth-century philosophical language movement. Presently, his principal scholarly interests are the history of linguistics and consciousness studies, spirituality and interfaith dialog in higher education, and integral models of education. Mr. Subbiondo has led and served on more than 25 accreditation teams for colleges and universities in the Western and North Western regions. He received his undergraduate education at St. John’s University (New York) and his graduate education at the University of Southern California and Temple University.
